While many household garages across the nation are filled with a variety of power tools and machines, the average garage will not contain a vertical band saw. That is because the majority of vertical band saws on the market are extremely powerful machines that are used to cut through tough materials such as wood, metal, and sometimes even stone. Because of their large size and great capacity for cutting, vertical band saws are much more likely to be found in an industrial or commercial setting.
Band saws use a straight blade that is made of a continuous band of
metal to cut through materials. This metal band has sharp teeth only on
one side. The band is moved by two wheels, which are mounted on the
same plane. Vertical band saws also have a horizontal base, called the
table, on which the materials can be placed and fed into the machine.
Band saws are particularly good for woodworking and metalworking,
because they can be used to cut curves or irregular shapes, but they
can also be used to cut straight lines.
