DESCRIPTION OF THE "VMC
CNC ORBITING SYSTEM (C-AXIS):
 
The "VECTOR MACHINING CONTROL"
 Computer Controller is a highly
 accurate and sophisticated DNC
 (Direct Numeric Control) system,
 which combines an accurate
 SYSTEM #3R mechanical unit
 with multiple microporcessors.
 The machanical portion consists
 of X-Y axis  slides, using preloaded
 linear bearings.  Each Slide (X-Y)
 is controlled by a stepping motor.  
 The stepping motors are mounted on
 the outside of the mechanical unit
 in order to minimize head built-up.  
 One Step on the motors will move the
 slide .00005 inches, which in turn
 drives a screw.  The screws are
 contained in an oil bath for
 extra lubricant protection.
 Each screw is also equipped with
 an automatic backlash eliminator.
 
The DNC Computer control is a
 two microprocessor system.  Unlike
 many other computer controlled
 systems, the VMC system is designed
 with the tool maker (operator)
 in mind.  Learning time is at a
 minimum because the operator is
 prompted through data entry.  
 This is also done in order
 to safeguard against the entry
 of improper information.  The VMC
 System is also inch metric switchagle.  
 This may be accomplished by using the
 switch provided on the rear panel of
 the DNC unit.  The CRT will display
 the direction of movement in direct
 relationship to the electrode.  
 For ease of viewing, the display is
 automatically scaled.
 
The VMC System will allow the
 operator to machine horizontally
 as well as vertically.  
 This feature will enable the
 operator to hold tighter tolerances
 and finer surface finishes while
 decreasing the overall machining time.
 With this system is is possible to
 machine up to a dimension, instead
 of having to depend on exact
 electrode dimensions and pickup.  
 This will help to avoid and
 correct pickup errors which may
 occur with conventional EDM machining.  
 The following machining functions
 are built into the VMC System:
 
 - Threading
 - Undercutting
 - Orbiting
 - The ability to maintain sharp corners
    on square and rectangular shapes
 - Automatic calculation of distance for
    triangular, square, and hex shapes
    through the microprocessor.
 - The ability to machine tapers for die
    clearance and mold work using a
    straight electrode.
 
These machining functions are described
 in detail in the instruction manual.
 
SPECIFICATIONS:
 
-The vector machining control is a
 3 axis multiple DNC system.
 
-Capacity in the horizontal mode
 is .200 or 5mm each side of the center.
 
-System is servo controlled in 3 axis.
 
-Horizontal movement is controlled
 in 50 millionth
  -increments.
 
Increment depth selection for
 cutting in poor flushing condition.
 
-Taper cutting with straight
 electrode can be generated within
 the movement limit of XYZ axis.
 
-Horizontal movement under servo
 control is possible without any
 movement of Z axis; for example
 thread cutting or straightundercut.
 
-Standard preprogrammed shapes are:  
 triangular, square, hex and round.  
 Under these conditions the computer
 calculates the correct distance to
 it's resulting corner.
 
-The unit can machine in any
 horizontal direction in 1° increments.
 
-VMC eliminates problems with corner
 radii.
 
-Center correction can be made
 without losing program.
 
-CRT Display of the Program
 Mode that is being performed.
